Becoming a mystery shopper is easy, but becoming a successful one can be a challenge. Whilst it is easy to sign up with numerous companies, getting a number of jobs can be quite difficult. This may be due to a large number of reasons.

1.Your application

Believe it or not, some companies that require an official application may use the application to judge your writing skills. When applying for a job, ensure that your grammar, punctuation and spelling is free from errors. This is your first exposure to the company and whilst they may approve your application, they may not offer you jobs.

2.Keep a log book or diary

If you accept a job and miss the deadline or forget to do the job, the company that employees you will immediately lose trust in you. As many companies are on strict deadlines, failure to complete the job impacts all parties. By only missing one job, you may never get the opportunity to complete another.

3. Treat all jobs as equals

Whether the job is for $1, $2 or $1000, ensure that you complete all jobs and reports with the highest standards. Check all spelling and grammar and ensure that you have followed the guidelines perfectly. When you begin working for a new company, you will receive work that may be on the lower end of the pay scale. However, taking your time and ensuring everything is perfect will quickly fast track you to the higher paying jobs.

4. Read the Guidelines

Even if you have done a mystery shop for a client before, always read the guidelines. Guidelines are subject to change and if you don't read them, you may do the job incorrectly. This will result in the company withholding your pay and can also result in you becoming "just another shopper" on a company's list.

5. Have fun!

When you are relaxed you are less likely to be identified as a mystery shopper! If you show a genuine interest in the job that you are doing, you will come across as an everyday customer. In addition to this, you will be more likely to pick up information that when stressed, you wouldn't normally pick up.
